None of the previous reviewers mentioned that this book is based upon the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. As a user of the 1928 version I found it required a significant amount of interpolation but was still somewhat useful. I am an Anglican Lay Minister who has conducted both Morning and Evening Prayer and I bought the book in the hope it would provide some additional insight and understanding of those Offices. To a certain degree it did.Mainstream Episcopalians, being more familiar with the 1979 BCP language and references, will likely find this book helpful.American Anglo Catholics and traditional Episcopalians will find The Oxford American Prayer Book Commentary by M. H. Shepherd, Jr. (now, regrettably, out of print, but used copies are available through Amazon) to be a great deal more comprehensive and, of course, specific to the 1928 BCP.

This is a great book to use with the Book of Common Prayer. It has highlights, page numbers and quotes to help explain different areas. I'm a newcomer to the BCP and I am pleased at how this book helped.

Great help to setting up for a congregation or for a personal discipline.

Bought as part of my lay ministry training. Great help.

I don't know why I thought this would be necessary, but I did. Turns out that it's of course not a necessary companion. The Book of Common Prayer spells it all out for us as is.

Simple, clear

As a newcomer to leading Morning Prayer I found this book invaluable in developing the understanding and confidence that I needed. During Lent I purchased multiple copies of this for my parish so that others would also feel empowered to lead morning or evening prayer. Fr. Webber concisely frames Morning Prayer in its historical context and provides valuable insights though the use of running commentary in a parallel page format throughout the text of the prayer service. By explaining the purpose of each component Fr. Webber removes the uncomfortable sense of not knowing why or if participation includes recitation of all of the various components that comprise Morning Prayer. After reading this book anyone should feel at peace in leading a morning or evening prayer service.

My 9th grade students have loved this book. It's such a great book for school because it's fun, interesting, feels like an "easy read" but in actuality it hits on so many in-depth themes. Alexie does a great job making it feel authentic and entertaining while also weaving in themes of poverty, racism, alcoholism, family issues, friendships, and so much more. I plan on continuing to use this book in my curriculum.

I originally started reading the book because a local school board had decided that it was inappropriate (apparently they think 9th graders can't handle mildly off color words) and want to ban it. The board president and other conservative members of the board hadn't even read the book but were basing their opinion on a blurb they read. They'd been given months to review it and despite it being a very quick read, they chose to not make the effort.I was hooked immediately. The author made you feel like you were part of his world even though most us have never been closer to a reservation than seeing advertising for a casino on TV. I recommend this book to anyone with teenagers. They would benefit from seeing the perspective of someone they might not encounter in their everyday life and maybe reevaluate how they treat people from other cultures.

I started reading this book because my 12 year old son was reading it to do a book summary for school. I read the entire book in a 24 hour span. It may be somewhat of a mature book with typical thoughts and actions of a typical young teen and their bodily functions but it will probably be a good life lesson as well as moral lessons. Anyway...What a great story, it is an emotional roller coaster. This book makes you laugh and cry, makes you feel bad for those on the rez but want to be a part of them and their tough life, makes you glad to be part of the white community and their privilege but embarrassed by our racism and how alone we are in a world full of people.I want to write more but I do not want to give spoilers even if they are vague. I have a feeling that I will be thinking of this book often and will read it again in the near future.My best summary I could give is a quote from Junior in the chapter titled "And a Partridge in a Pear Tree"..."It was a beautiful and ugly thing"

Piece of trash "literature." Parents, make sure you read this yourself before passing onto anyone under 18 or leaving it lying around where young readers might pick it up. This is crass storytelling, written by a victim of abuse who in turn has confessed to sexual harassment of others now in his adult years. No, I will not provide examples here b/c the examples are that inappropriate. Shame on elitist academics for congratulating themselves for their use of this as educational, inclusive, etc. That this pretends to represent the Native American perspective or heritage in any meaningful way is an insult.

Just look him up and you will see. The book is absolutely vile and inappropriate for any age. We had to read this book for a 7th grade English class and found it very hard to digest the raw sexual content. A few months later, the author's name was all over the news for sexual misconduct. He apologized but that does not make his actions forgivable.

I read this book because so many of my students read it as kids and really enjoyed it. The book is unflinching in its depiction of social reality--alcoholism and violence on the reservation and racism in wealthier, white towns surrounding that reservation while at the same time avoiding easy stereotypes. The characters--white and Native American, male and female--are all three-dimensional and believable, especially the teenage narrator.More than that, the novel is fun to read. This sounds odd, given the nature of the subjects covered, but Alexie's wit and insight are riveting. I read it through in one night and look forward to reading it again in a few months.

My wife bought this book because it deals with a tribe of Native Americans close to home. Alexie is a member of the Spokane tribe writes about himself as a young man who is a bit of a cartoonist. He leaves the reservation "The Rez" to deal with himself. He knows that in order to succeed, staying is not an option. Going from the Rez to a redneck school, Arnold - better known as Junior - becomes the only Native American other than the comical school mascot.This book hits home about the real world and real life among Native Americans. The options are: Stay on the Rez with the status quo or move out to "white man's land" and become part of that society. Covering as a light comedy, this book offers insight to the reader that isn't normally given. Sherman Alexie writes as though he's been there - that's because he has.

I read this when it came out 18 years ago. Apparently wasn't impressed. Can't imagine what was going through my mind! Each of these stories was marvelous this time. I read it all in one day! Didn't want to put it down. I've just moved to Arizona, and since my father died, it seems that I probably have Native blood. Came out when he died. He never even told our mother. They were married 28 years. How sad! So, me, the bleeding heart liberal, wasn't so in touch with the sensitivity and courage of this book. Shortly after discovering our heritage, I watched the move Smoke Signals. I was stunned, because the movie mirrored my sister's and my journey in discovering our heritage. Today I discovered that Mr Alexis is the screen writer for this movie. 😮 Makes sense! All the emotional content resonated with both me and my sisters. And these lovely stories certainly resonated for me, the second time around. Thank you, Sherman Alexie!!!!

Tarantino doesn't disappoint with this book! The book, which I got in soft cover and not for my ipad, is so user friendly with its photos. Which is why I wanted the actual book. It has many projects with step by step instructions and even a source guide, thank god! She tells you where to get the supplies. If you are doing hair accessories as I am, I have discovered a great online supply shop not mentioned in the book. It's called hair-hardware.com funny enough. They have it all. Anyway from rings to necklaces and even the hair stuff this book is sure to spark your imagination!

This is such a clever book. I thought my girlfriend and I were clever until I saw how clever this woman is. Even if you don't want to copy with her instructions it inspires you to try other things with sculpey, beads, old jewelry, etc... Great price. It is paperback but more of a collectors type of paperback as it is larger and much glossier. Photos are excellent. Remarkable!!

Love it! Great inspiration to create my own unique and eccentric jewelry. A must have for anyone into kawaii, pastel goth, or just playful style.

I can't even say enough about how much this book has improved my art form. I own a small business of making hair accessories and jewelry and this has upped my game massively. If I was only basing this on inspiration-factor inside the book alone i'd give it 5 stars, but everything is very clean and clear as far as directions and photography goes inside the book as well. Totally amazing, can't stop making things!

I have never written a review on Amazon before--and I have never felt so strongly compelled to write one as I do now. This book is MAGICAL, to put it mildly. As a newly budding herbalist, I've been slowly filling up my bookshelves with books on the subject, but none of them spoke to me the way that this one has, not just on an intellectual level but on a heart and soul level. Maria's writing is so clear and articulate that it literally felt like she was sitting right there next to me, pulling out herbs and personally explaining their uses to me. It's like sipping a cup of (herbal) tea with your best friend...after she's just shown you have to make it. The information is so comprehensive and well-organized, the pictures and presentation are gorgeous, and the recipes are so unique. I can't wait to try them all! When this book arrived in the mail, I literally couldn't put it down, and I know that I will return to it time and time again. Do yourself a favor and buy this book.

Outstanding addition to anyone's library. While the initial attraction to this book was the focus on using herbs to improve health, there is much more to it. Ms. Groves wants us to truly listen to our bodies and understand what is needed to feel our best. She educates the reader on how to address imbalances in our systems, but also helps us to dig deeper into the sources of the symptoms and to identify the true issues that cause them. The book also includes a thorough section on remedy making, with clear instructions on ways to use herbs in the form of teas, tinctures, oils, balms, and salves. For those interested in using herbs for body care and beauty, there are great recommendations for herbs to use in creams, lotions, and other skin care products. There are even lovely suggestions and instructions for using these healthy herbs in culinary treats such as sodas, cordials, vinegars, and bon-bons(!) that are so tasty that the health benefit is almost an afterthought. (Yes, I've tried those bon-bons and was quite impressed.)This is a book that you can definitely dip into for a specific topic, but really draws you in to read through as a whole. The author has a conversational style that presents a lot of detailed information in an approachable format. I am very pleased to add this book to my collection, and would highly recommend it as a thorough resource for anyone interested in learning more about how herbs can be an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.

This is a well written, engaging herbal guide that gives the reader a good foundation for using herbs and putting the body into balance! The author is easy to understand and covers multiple topics such as detoxification, relaxation and digestion. She also has a section on specific body systems and the herbs that have an affinity towards those systems. I found this to be an invaluable resource, even though it does not claim to be exhaustive. For example Hawthorn is an herb that is known to have an affinity for the heart but it is pretty amazing to learn of all the intricate ways this one herb can help the cardiac system. Each herb also includes the various, most useful ways t prepare it and the precautions to be taken if any. The book is well worth the price just for the special herbal recipes that are included in it and expert advise on diet and longevity.Whether you are a budding herbalist or just interested in alternatives for health, this book is a wonderful resource! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us so freely!

This book is worthless if you own a Z3. I just wanted info on basic stuff like oil changes and spark plugs. Forget it. Buy the "real service manual" if you own a Z3.

Chilton's is the best bang for the buck and is always much more detailed than Haynes.

The best book I can find for my 1995 BWM 318ti anywhere. I like doing the maintenance myself whenever possible and this book makes it simple. It is very detailed in pictures which is what is the most helpful. Well worth it!

The manual covers many of the E36/3-Series, but I personally could not find enough information to help me on my Z3. With all the other models covered, it makes it confusing to know which one they make reference to at any time!

Skip this, you'd do better with a google search. It's well worth the money to get the bently manual instead. This one is way too over generalized. 1997 BMW Z-3

Surprisingly, this book has been helpful when my "101 Performance Projects" and Bentley didn't quite give me enough information. The three manuals have been absolutely supplementary, and missing any one of them would have made my work a bit more difficult. I'm an amateur at most jobs I take on for my 1995 BMW, and have so far satisfactorily completed each task. I should add, "at a fraction of the cost of using a professional mechanic."

This book is just too simple. Good for the know-how's and for the preventive maintenance works, simply too simply and not detail enough for further BMW specific kind of works. Rather to spend little more money for a better shop manual than getting this 'reference' book.
