Having followed some of this true story in the newspapers I was interested to read the whole so was delighted to find the book on eKindle. Growing up and always having pets I am a sucker for books about animals (especially those with happy ends!) and found this interesting as the storyline and its setting were unusual, happening in South America. I admire the author's stubborness with the numerous difficulties he had to overcome before the outcome and applaud his human kindness toward a fellow non-humanbeing. I read it all in one go and suspect others will, too. A very enjoyable book.

I was amazed and delighted by this book. Arthur is a wonderful animal, so stoic - from the moment he laid eyes on Mikael, that was it. Mikael Lindnord was his pack leader and Arthur was determined not to let him get out of his sight.I love animals and am an advocate, so all stories about dogs, cats et al, are rapidly reaching my kindle. Arthur is a keeper and I am so happy that he is safe and loved in Sweden with his forever family.

This book is a pleasant, true story about a not-so-pleasant extreme race that brought a stray Ecuadorian dog into the life of Mikael Lindnord, a Swedish adventure racer. The story describes an arduous trip with three other team members that tests the stamina of these elite rough terrain racers. The first part of the book told by Lindnord in a friendly casual style describes his background and introduction to the extreme sport with plenty of technical details. The reader learns about the intense training, planning, and packing that must occur before the race begins and the incredible level of trust that must exist among team members.Well into this particular race and well into the book, a stray dog appears and bonds with Lindnord. The dog named Arthur by Lindnord attaches himself to him and won't leave no matter how hard the going gets, and that's where the story takes off. This isn't the book for those looking for a great literary read. The story starts off slowly and some of the details are repetitive and of interest only to others in extreme sports. Animal lovers, however, especially dog lovers, will be drawn to Arthur's story. Those who love extreme sports will also appreciate the book.

A touching, feel-good story of a stray dog in Ecuador, Arthur, who chose to follow a Swedish adventure racing team as they completed their grueling challenges such as mountain climbing, kayaking, and hiking through the jungle. The story follows the race, the team leader's fight to adopt Arthur and bring him back to Sweden, and Arthur's life in his new home. Also sheds light on the plight of stray dogs in many third world countries, where there are no laws against animal cruelty. A wonderful read for anyone who loves dogs.

I enjoyed Arthur. I read several news stories describing Arthur's adventure with the team and I was delighted to read the story. The fact that Mikael was not a dog lover and had never owned (or been owned by a dog) made the story even more heartfelt. Mikael's love for Arthur (a feeling many of us can understand), his determination to bring him home to be part of his family and all of the people who pitched in to support his effort makes a truly compelling story.....I loved it. I was not particularly interested in the portion of the story before Arthur made his appearance, but that's me.

This retelling of a grueling trek by a Swedish adventure racing team is insightful and inspiring. In addition to surviving their race through the jungles of South America, the team befriends a mangy, but adorable, dog. In the end, the teams saves the dog. But, as is so often the case in these animal/people encounters, it is the dog who becomes the quiet hero and ultimately saves the human. Thank you, Arthur. Thank you, Mikael, for sharing your story.

Precious story. This dog is a winner as is the human who rescues him. It's not terribly well written but I excused that as maybe a translation problem from Swedish to English. The story, however, comes through as does the struggle to win the race and then again to bring Arthur home. Loved it.

Loved every minute of it. Amazing story. Could not put it down and read it in one go! I followed the story when it happened but absolutely loved the book.

When one reads a Dirk Pitt novel, you are initially brought back to an early period of history, and then to the present with a wealth of scientific information, danger and excitement.In various parts of the world there are a number of violent events in areas where young boys are dying from an unknown reason or source. While doing work for NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency) in Copapayo, El Salvador, the Cerron Grande Dam suddenly explodes and NUMA Director Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino race to save some people on boats, before they get swept over the damaged dam. And yes, young boys in the area have been dying.Around the same time, Dirk’s son and daughter, Dirk Pitt Jr. and Summer, both Special Projects Directors of NUMA, are working on a dig in Egypt when violence occurs. Soon the NUMA team is focused on areas of violence and young boy’s deaths from Karachi, to Mumbai, to Detroit and finally the clues take them to Scotland and Ireland where the mystery is finally solved.As in previous Dirk Pitt novels, the three Pitt’s are in constant danger and in situations where there does not seem to be away out. Still, they always find a way, as they did in the final chapter on Skellig Michael Island off the coast of Ireland. And, like usual they seem to destroy a lot of cars, scooters, boats and more, before solving the mystery. Many thanks Clive & Dirk, you have once again hit the ball out of the ballpark!

Bought Celtic Empire with Audible. I'm now able to listen to my book while I'm fixing meals. Like all of Clive Cussler books, I find it hard to put the book down or stop listening. The book keeps you spell bound wanting to know what's coming next. This was more than I usually pay for a book but frankly its been worth it.

Been a while since we have had a good Dirk Pitt novel. Would like to read more, although the othe character books are good to.

I have read every Dirk Pitt book. With the world going crazy about political correctness, it's good to get lost in a book about a good man. Not perfect but someone trying to do the right thing for the right reasons. Waiting for the next Story.

I really enjoyed this newest book by The Cussler father and son team. Really liked the story line and how it was woven altogether. I believe anyone wanting to read a good adventure book will enjoy this one totally. GMB

I have always been a fan of Gregg Allman. At the age of 14 I bought Laid Back and fell in love with it, especially Queen of Hearts. In the book we learn that Queen of Hearts is the song he is most proud of in his entire catalogue. I loved the Allman Brothers as well, with Whipping Post in my top 20. I had been listening to Laid Back a few weeks before he passed away, sharing it with my son so he could appreciate his music too. I hadn't listened to it in a decade or more and it sure holds up over time.When he died just days after I had rekindled my love for his music I wasn't ready to let go and decided to read his book. I love how he wrote it, like the two of you were sitting drinking coffee and he was telling you the whole story. And the whole story it is, he doesn't leave out much. Sex, drugs and rock n roll! He wrote it with the kind of candor and honesty I expected from him and he did not disappoint. So sad he's gone but knowing he is with Duane lightens the loss.

How lucky I was to be a teenager in the late 60's and 70's. My generation grew up with the very best music and it permeated our lives completely. (I loved it when our children discovered it on their own and excitedly wanted to turn us on to these great bands of the past. Yes, we KNOW!)So many great bands of that era, but one of the best was The Allman Brothers Band. Their sound was so distinctive, so lush, sensitive and moving.Me being from the South, I loved the Southern tones that were so familiar and comforting, yet their music was so different. It was rock and roll, and so much more. It was in a category of its own. It got under your skin...and still does all these years later.Such talent in the band, especially that of the two Allman brothers! Different, but equal in their genius. Every teenaged girl was in love with Gregg Allman. To hear that voice and those words, that of an old man who's seen it all, coming from a kid who looked like an angel.The book does not disappoint. Here you get the story from the man himself, relayed like a conversation, a frank and forthcoming one. I read it compulsively until it was finished. It fleshes out so much of the back story to the band and of Gregg himself. There was no internet in the 70's, information was gleaned from the news and magazines, or word of mouth. I knew the rough outline of what occurred in the band and the lives of its members, but so much I did not know. So grateful to Gregg for sharing his story.I must admit that I'm brought to tears these days listening to old Allman Brothers music, knowing what I know now. Their story is an epic one, filled with the highest highs and deepest lows, None more so than Gregg Allman's life itself.You're transported back to that era: the Vietnam War, the social upheaval, the youth rebellion, the racism. The Allman Brothers were in the thick of it all. This book has me thinking of things I haven't considered in years.Rest In Peace, Gregg. Your music continues to live.

A lot of my preconceived notions about Gregg Allman were laid to rest with this book. As I read it, I sought out and downloaded music of his I'd never heard before. At parts I laughed, cried and, yes, even grieved for the losses he has endured throughout his life.The book is like sitting down with him on a purchasing and listening to him tell the stories straight to me.He is, and always will be, missed.RIP Midnight Rider

This book really grabbed a hold of and kept my attention. I received the book on a Friday afternoon. I finished to book by Saturday morning! I did not stay up all night reading this either----it just really was fascinating. Gregg Allman realizes how incredibly blessed he is to be alive, and has found a way to not live in regret-yet take full (I think) responsibility for both his great achievements and his sometimes knee-jerk type decision making that were/are apart of his personality. Not to give too much away--he has a big regret of something he did and said right before Duanne had his life-taking accident. I think trying to live with this guilt, he made some other bad decisions trying to hide from that guilt. I know the guilt in the regrets of something said right before losing someone dear. Time does little to get rid of that horrible feeling. This book is very uplifting in showing that a life can be turned around--and the music only gets better as the peace finally settles in this surprisingly deep man. We are rooting for you!! Mr. Allman :0

Gregg Allman tells the good, the bad & the seriously ugly in his book. Some of the events and situations they steered into made me cringe, but I do not want to judge. These young, talented and driven guys were far from perfect, & they allowed the sudden money and fame to take over & the lessons were hard earned. I love the figurative language that just flows from Gregg, and you can hear the Tennessee in him for sure. You can also hear the sadness and grief he dealt with all of his adult life. Rest in peace and thank you so much for the music.

Rabbi Yosef Adler offers readers the Passover Haggadah together with comments that he heard from Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik. These comments are a collection of short sermons on various parts of the Haggadah, a book recited during the evening Passover Seder, a book that contains readings recalling the enslavement of the Israelites in Egypt and their exodus under the leadership of Moses. The word Seder means "order," referring to the order of the readings and of the many practices that are part of the Seder meal, such as eating matzot (unleavened bread), moror (bitter herbs), and stimulating children to participate by encouraging them to ask questions. Rabbi Soloveitchik very frequently refers in his comments to statements made in the legal rulings of the great sage Maimonides (1138-1204).The comments include: We need to not only perform the Seder practices but also understand them; we must "learn, study, and analyze the events surrounding the slavery and exodus from Egypt." One lesson that the Seder teaches is to appreciate time and use it well. There is a difference between slaves owned by individuals, such as the biblical Joseph and his owner, and slaves owned by a State, such as Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and the Egyptian slavery. God is called "Makom," Place, according to Rabbi Soloveitchik because the word suggests a hidden God. There is significance in why tradition states that the Israelites were redeemed from Egyptian slavery after 210 years of enslavement rather than 209 or another number.Rabbi Adler includes laws about the holiday in Hebrew and concludes his Haggadah with seven pages of his own ideas about the Haggadah in English.
