The storygives insight on the importance of friendship. Kasi and Mtani meet byaccident one hot day on Africa's wild plains. Though they both lookeddifferent, they liked to chase each other and hide in the dust. One daywhile playing, they see a rabbit and they decide to run after therabbit. Later they realize hunting can become boring and it is best toplay and explore. The author discusses the topic of friendship through this story, andtells readers how friendship can be fun and it is not about color, race, caste, and creed. The concept of the book extends to young and oldalike. Friendship has no boundaries and the author encourages readers to be like Kasi and Mtani, just smile and care. The rhyming verses givethe story a good pace and movement and introduce young children torhyming words and how these can be used while writing poems. Theillustrations are wonderful and make the story vivid and the conceptclear. They play together, hunt together, and do all they can together. One day Mtani detects human hunters and warns Kasi and the cheetah clan. They flee and are grateful to their friend, Mtani. The cheetahs later return the favour when two lionesses trap Mtani. The cheetahs save her life.The moral of the story is that no matter your colour or creed, friends come in different forms and help each other. They are there for one another no matter what.The story is set in a rhyme format. The rhythm of it flows well and makes the story more enjoyable and fun for children. It helps the words and the meaning of the story easy for children to remember too.The illustrations are beautiful. They are vibrant and portray the animals and their surroundings perfectly.My three year old daughter enjoyed this book very much. She loved pointing out what was happening in the illustrations. She also took on board the morals in the story.Patricia Furstenberg gets the message across that friendships should have no barriers. Differences don’t matter. It is the person or animal inside, and the love and support of friends that count. Animals can become friends despite their diversity – humans can too.I’m all for teaching children what is important, and doing so in a fun way. This is a nice children's picture that tells a fascinating story of a young cheetah that loves to hang out with a dog all day before returning to his family at night. All the other animals claim the two of them should not be friends but they defy them choosing to stay the best of friends instead. They even end staying with each other all the time before the story is over showing how the power of true friendship can win out in the end. I like how it tells the life lesson story in a rhyming format that will keep young kids entertained and the illustrations are just awesome full of vibrant colors. Would work well for story time. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Lovely bright, bold, engaging illustrations and delightful, gentle, rhythmic text and a loving message will mean this is sure to be a favourite reached for time and again.
As with Furstenberg’s previous books that I reviewed this book is another example of a great children’s story, which can also be enjoyed by adults. Furstenberg’s books are always a delight to read. This story and her two previous ones, are all inspired by true stories brought to life in a way that children can understand the friendships that developed between animals that would normally not be seen together. This story goes beyond just the cheetah and dog to include their respective packs, illustrating that even though there are massive differences between them these can be overcome through mutual love, friendship, and fighting for something bigger than themselves. Once again a successful piece of writing.
