I'm a fan of Mark Goodwin's novels as he is a terrific story teller. I had a hard time putting his newest book down. The main characters, Danny, Alisa, and Steve could very well be my sons and daughter. This is a thrilling tale filled with not only action and adventure but true love and redemption.I truly like the fact that he can tell a great story without filling the pages with gratuitous sex and vulgar language. Christians will appreciate the transformation of his characters. I believe anyone curious about God will also really enjoy this novel. Thinking about preparedness? Start reading all of Mr. Goodwin's books and visit his web site. I recommend all of Mr. Goodwin's novels as they are very relevant to what is happening right now in our world.
I didn't expect much from this book but boy was I surprised. I guess this is the definition of undersell, over deliver!It took me a while to get started, I didn't like the title or the vibe I was getting from the marketing but I couldn't stop reading once I got started. I have read a lot about EMP and knew everything that was talked about in the book already but that didn't stop me from getting cold chills. This story really brings home in stark human terms what we might face someday.This is a must read if you want to introduce someone to the worst case scenario.
So far, this new series is proving to be another masterful work of fiction by the same author that wrote the American Collapse and Days of Noah series'. This book starts off a little slower than some of his other books as far as action goes, but his skill at writing good dialogue and creating the personal world of the characters has gotten even better. Despite the lack of action I still found myself flying through pages.The story is a great, realistic view of the simple and basic ways any average person can get prepared for any disaster. In this case, Goodwin basically lays out a Christian guide for life in modern America.I'm awaiting the next book in the series with great anticipation. I expect that it shall be even better than the first.
A really good book, but I kind of went into it thinking it would be good after reading 'The Day's of Noah'. I was kind of hoping for a new series based on the remaining characters from 'The Day's of Noah' But this book was a pleasant surprise. I wont give any spoilers but it did well up a tear at the end. Mark is a really good writer and now I am waiting for the next in the series to come out! I picked it up for my kindle but will probably now purchase a hard copy too, when I like a book a lot I usually purchase both types, I have both for the Noah series.
It's 5 stars for a tale that drew me in from the first page and held me until the last. I hated to see the end but can NOT wait to begin another of Mark Goodwin's novels. Even non believers would enjoy this spine tingling, edge of your seat story. The way that the gospel was shared was like talking with old friends while giving the conversation food for thought long after.This was a new read area for me though a long time lover of end time prophecy. Already decided that Mark Goodwin is going to be on my watch for, buy, and read list. I love his writing!!! This is the type of author that you can not wait to tell your family and reading friends about! I'm all in Mark. Off to begin another adventuresome journey with you! Keep 'm coming!
I have purchased and read several of Mark's books via Kindle. All of his books have been a pleasure to read. As a Believer it is awesome to have clean books with no foul language. I have actually read some of the series several times and continue to enjoy them.I love the pieces of scripture as well as quotes in the beginning of the chapters.
Another great book by Mark Goodwin. I have read every other series he has put out up to this, so obviously I appreciate his work as a whole, but I really feel like he is getting better and better with each book and series. This is creative and interesting, the dream sequences are extremely well done, the characters are engaging and he does a good job making you care about them, and the story is exciting. I also appreciate that the author is good at incorporating the Bible and Christianity in such a way that is unashamed, but natural. I hope more people interested in the "post-apocalyptic" and "prepper" genre pick up this series and give the content the same consideration spiritually as they do practically. Being prepared for what may come physically is good, but being prepared for what will come physically is even more important.
Again, like Ava's Crucible, Goodwin has the need to over-scripture his books. More problematic is that he decides he knows what a scripture means and defines it. For example, an art student in his book didn't want to take an art class because it involved a nude model. Quoting scripture she said thinking about sex is still adultery. How does seeing a person nude equate to thinking about sex then extrapolating that to adultery? Does that mean naturists are all adulterers? If that's Goodwin's thinking then he has sex issues. He used the same scripture to make a point in Ava's Crucible. I bought this book as well as Ava's Crucible because of the excellent Economic Collapse series. My mistake.
