I really liked this book, but that's about as far as it got.Let me start by saying that the story of Dr. Pepperberg's bond withAlex is very touching, and if that is your cup of tea, you willprobably treasure this book. Ditto if you are a parrot fanatic.I have an African grey parrot, but I'm not a fanatic, and I think I was expecting alittle more detail on how Alex was trained. Not as much as in "TheAlex Studies," which was a scientific research piece, but more thatcould help me develop my bird. To be fair, this was not a realisticexpectation; the book was clearly not "How to Train Your AfricanGrey."Nonetheless, the book was written cleanly, was a quick read and, as Isaid, was a touching story. I think anyone with even a passinginterest in birds or the bond between human and pet will enjoy it.In summary, if you are looking for a touching story about a woman andher famous parrot, this is the book you are looking for. If you arelooking for parrot training tips, you won't find them here, but youwill still probably like the book.

What an amazing journey! I lived with a Grey back in the mid 70's, wish I had know more about parrots at the time. I was a teen just out of high school, dad bought him because he always wanted one. Romeo (who later became Juliet 4 years later when she laid eggs) was creative and playful. And I've learned since then that she loved me, I didn't understand her behavior fully, there was no internet back then so i had to surmise her actions were positive towards me. She too liked to play games, such as the time I had just installed a smoke detector in the hallway outside my bathroom. her cage was about 10 feet away in the kitchen but in view of that hallway. I was in the shower when the detector went off, i was home alone. I panicked and jumped out of the shower and went into the hallway where the alarm was not going off. I was perplexed until about a minute later. Juliet imitated the alarm and followed that up with a laugh! It took her one day to learn the sound and she thought it was funny that I reacted! Smart bird. There are more things that she did too. I miss her. Thanks for taking the time to write this book, it brought back memories while learning about the intelligence, which we know better today exists in all living creatures.

Great story about a remarkable bird. The author's relationship with Alex is heartwarming and winningly told. The things she and Alex accomplished are amazing. I liked how well she treated her birds and that she makes clear these intelligent creatures should not be left alone as solitary pets. Her research changed the way people think about birds. After reading this I watched Alex videos on YouTube.

I loved Alex from the moment that he was introduced in the story. I had the good fortune of seeing Alex on a television show many many years ago, and he grabbed my imagination and my heart right from the start. I was so proud of you Irene M. Pepperberg, for proving how brilliant even the smallest little animals are in captivity and in the wild. I grew up on a farm believing and knowing that the cats, dogs, and livestock were so much more than the visual sum of their parts--which is also why I mourned them whenever livestock were sold at market, or was sympathetic and sad when any of the animals got hurt or died unexpectedly.You and your Alex, set the whole scientific world on it's ear with your combined mental prowess. Nothing could ever be the same again. Phooey on humans being the dominant species, or belittling exceptionally bright animals for doing something miraculous as being, "just a lucky happenstance." They really are quite brilliant and extraordinary. You were glorious, and Alex was glorious, and the world once more had mysteries to explore, solve, and celebrate. You erased the boundaries, and saved us by giving us back a certain amount of magic, and miracles, mysteries, and a renewed reverence and appreciation for of all of God's creatures here on Earth.I wondered since seeing you both on television, what had become of you both. I imagined that you were both still shattering all of those stuffy scientific journalistic boundaries, with pizzazz and moxie, and reaping accolades, awards, and worldwide fame and recognition for your work. Thank you for sharing Alex with the world. I think everyone who saw Alex, was instantly enchanted with him, and loved the both of you and the groundbreaking work that you both did. In case the other dreamers forgot to tell you--thank you Irene Pepperberg, from the bottom of my heart. Interesting story about a scientist and the parrot who touched her so deeply not only in an academic sense, but also a humanistic one as well. They spent two decades together and formed a special and unique bond. At the end I asked myself if Alex touched Irene more deeply as a scientist or a woman. In my mind there was no doubt of the answer.

As a grey owner, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Irene's work with Alex. Although I do not engage in formal training with my boy (he's already too smart for me) I found her methods very interesting and loved reading Alex's story.

This Book was AMAZING! It was enlightening and inspirational. It make man kind realize there is more than our self centered views that we are the only intelligent forms on earth. We have so much more to learn from these animals. We need to respect and share the world with them. Thank you ALEX for touching our lives. Thank you Irene for sharing your ALEX and believing in him.

Except for a page of notes and a glossary, there is no context or synthesis provided by the book's compilers, who have seen the show over 100 times between them. There are no direct quotations from the show's conceiver and choreographer Michael Bennett (who died in 1987), its composer (Marvin Hamlisch), or one of its lead performers (Donna McKechnie, Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical); thus the book is weak on the show's creative aspects. Nevertheless, buried inside the trivia and the petty gripes of many of the interviewees are valuable nuggets of information and an enlightening overall impression, which theater scholars may find useful. Great book. Wonderful insights into the original choices made by Michael Bennett and the original creative team. Great photos.

This book is utterly useless as a study or history of A CHORUS LINE. Look in the index and you will find fewer that a dozen references to Marvin Hamlisch in the entire volume. There is absolutely NO assessment or WEST SIDE STORY with no mention of Leonard Bernstein. Clearly, whoever put this cut-and-paste hodgepodge together must have loathed Hamlisch. They certainly have the right to personally dislike the man, but they do NOT have the right (as want-to-be historians) to neglect his contribution the show. Save your money!

This is the world's most boring cookbook. No photos or commentary. It seems like the author printed out recipes from the internet and put them in this boring book. Don't bother buying this.

way too complicated for a basic teen. I was looking for a more beginner style cookbook. Something to teach a teenager how to get cooking some of their favorite recipes. This cookbook is beyond complicated. Not a good option for a beginner.

The beginning of the book has some great information on cooking terms and tools; however, it was almost too much information for a novice to absorb. There were many easy recipes, but most of them seemed to have a lot of ingredients, which might be overwhelming for a beginner or teenager. What I loved about the book is the great job it did teaching versatility in cooking--that you can interchange ingredients to suit your tastes and can substitute items with what you have on hand. Overall, I’d recommend this book for any teenager who has an interest in learning to cook.

I was disappointed, has absolutely no pictures. My daughter showed no interest in it.

I'm a teen who knows my way around the kitchen (at least decently so!) and I've tried two recipes out of this book. I'm a fan of their recipes for a one person for dinner, most of which don't require a whole lot of prep. I made "White Angel Hair" which had a delicious creamy and cheesy sauce. One of my girlfriends and I doubled it and had it for dinner-- it hit the spot. As someone who has done her fair share of cooking, this wasn't a challenging recipe, but it's helpful to have the proportions for spice and cheese. I also went for the chocolate chip cookie recipe. Mmmm :) This would be good for teens who are working their way up to cooking for themselves, especially because it gives you some pointers on shopping, such as how to keep your cost down. I'm not sold on the way it sneaks in whole wheat flour and vegetables for some recipes, but since I'd probably use them anyways, it's proooobably not a bad idea.Bonus: This book has a full-blown glossary of cooking terms and conversions, as well as a thorough list of required cooking equipment.

The Cookbook for Teens is a quick, easy read. It's a primer for cooking with a couple of great introductory chapters of information your teens need to know before getting started followed by recipes categorized according to types of meals. I love the suggestions on what items to keep on hand - very useful list of pantry items as well as the idea of recipes for one. Many folks learn to cook by starting with breakfast and it's a smart move that they begin with recipes for the morning. I enjoyed reading these best and I like that there is a variety in the recipes. I am looking forward to having my two teens say " there's nothing to eat" and giving them this book! What I don't love about the recipes is there are quite a few spices and odd arrangements of ingredients which I think will make my teens scrunch up their noses. Also, the recommendation to just leave an ingredient out or sub something else could result in some disasters - for instance if you leave out a can of tomatoes because you don't like them, how will that affect the consistency and taste of the final product? One thing is certain...this book will provide for some new adventure in the kitchen!

Very easy to follow recipes and my 11 y.o. daughter uses it all the time. She has made everything from soups to desserts and with the exception of the paprika soup (holy onions!), it has all been good. Well written and well worth the money.

Got this for a teenager I don’t know personally so this review is based on aesthetics and price and not so much the book’s recipes or usefulness. I found the lack of photos or drawings of any kind rather unfortunate, given the book is meant for novice cooks. I ended up buying Mark Bittner’s wonderful illustrated volume “How to Cook Everything”. Much better for a beginner and filled with lovely photos, charts, etc...

This book has given me a different perspective on a way to help myself. Instead of going through the long process of psychotherapy and analyzing the reasons why I do the things that I do, it has you start in the present and accept your feelings and emotions without suppressing them. I have spent many years suppressing my feelings and not dealing with them because of guilt. This book is helping me to accept the feelings that I have as they come up from my subconscious. There is a lot of information in this book that if understood and applied can change a person's life.

John Ruskan has put together a very well thought out system of understanding feelings, karma and life. He has been working at this for quite some time, but the material has a timeless quality. I've read the book twice and took a great deal more from it the second time. There is something the rings true about karma and how our suppressed feelings and conditioned patterns attract that which is needed for them to come to the surface and give us the opportunity to grow through them. Of course, sometimes we do not chose or are not able to grow through difficult feelings. Emotional Clearing offers a deep, thorough treatment of the concepts that underly the challenage of this universal truth. Thus, this book helped me grasp the very spiritual nature of self work. I'm indebted to Ruskan for this, simply put. This book is not, gratefully, scientific or academic. Yet it is precisely assembled and thorough, affected by Ruskan's well-organized logic, but also by his practiced access to feelings, instinct and intuition. The modality he has developed takes the theory further by offering therapeutic techniques that are based on long standing practices. Like yoga, like breathwork. So it is more than theory. If you want a book or process or modality that also guides you directly to effective action, this book does that. But don't get me wrong, the theory can occupy a thoughtful person for quite some time too. I would know, having found the book two years ago and finding myself still involved with it and even now using my experience with it as a jumping off point for writing and working. There has been a decided improvement in the flow of my life since first discovering Ruskan's website and then buying the book. For spirtual seekers and people wanting to improve thier life in a deep, authentic, sustainable manner, this book is effective.

I also bought the twelve CD set that to me, was very worthwhile. They really help one to clear many belief systems, learn to focus your Light energy on one thing, and at the same time improve the ability to relax the body and mind.The CD's needs to be listened to, with ear phones. Since I work at home, I was not searching for a book of packable box lunch ideas, but I am so glad that I went ahead and purchased the book. Although it is not clear from the title, this is a vegetarian cookbook with an emphasis on vegetables and whole grains. The book's recipes are accessible and delicious. I love the use of mixed grains, the thoughtful presentations, and the innovative combinations. Although created as bento box lunches, I find the recipes look just as good straight to the plate. I like this author's approach to food in general and will keep my eye out for her next book.

I dock a star for this seeming like a vegan book, but not being vegan. Eggs play a pretty heavy role, and that was disappointing. I do enjoy the book, and have enjoyed the Shiso Delicious photography in general. Full disclosure: the book does not claim to be vegan, but the author was featured on the Veganuary site, which is where I first heard of her and read her bio. There it states that Sara is a vegan chef, but it appears that Sara is vegetarian rather than vegan. Pros: the content here really does help to think through the methods of creating bento with a plant-forward concept, and I love her sauce ideas! Because I do not really cook Asian-style Foods, just buy them, I am enjoying the simplicity that Sara brings to making these sauces from scratch and then pairing items up. I also REALLY like how Sara puts a “Keeps in fridge” notation for the bento meal itself as well as the individual components that you’ve just made in bulk. “Mix this stuff up and it lasts a day. Keep it separate and it’ll last four days.” Genius.

I ordered this book because Sara’s photography is so stunning that I would have been happy just to be inspired to make more beautiful food. This book really changed the way I view packing lunch for myself and my partner, and has motivated me to create meals that are carefully balanced in their nutrition in a way that’s not boring or tedious. I never would have thought I’d say it, but I’m so excited to plan and pack work lunches now!

I enjoy learning about the art of bento. This is really helping me out and I love getting some ideas from this book.

Not only visually inspirational, it is also tangibly helpful for understanding how to pack nutrient-dense meals in a way that respects environmentalism, nutrition, and joy. Sara did an amazing job of translating her love of cooking and styling from concept to page and I'm so excited to cook more recipes from here to liven up my repertoire!!

I pre-ordered Bento Power and did a happy dance the day it arrived to me in Austin TX last week. I've already read the whole book cover to cover, and I absolutely adore it. The photography is so delicious and I love the very helpful tutorials. It really shows that Sara lives the bento lifestyle and want to empower your readers to take up the habit by teaching them techniques and trick to prep delicious meals & manage their time well. I just can't say enough good things!

Jigsaw by Lilly Atlas was Hell’s Handlers MC third book. I’m totally in love with this series.Jigsaw was the MC’s treasurer. He was moody, solemn, brooding, grumpy and angry at life. After a tragedy changed his life forever, he exacted revenge, joined the MC and formed no attachments other than his MC brothers. He mostly stayed away from the women and children and vowed to never get close to a woman again.Isabelle “Izzy” Monroe had a horrible upbringing. As a result, she was independent, self sufficient, void of friends and family, and totally in control of any interactions with others. She was the new tattoo artist in town and immediately proved her talent and strong warrior status among the MC clan.Jig and Izzy had off the charts chemistry from the start. They both had tons of baggage and refused to form attachments so they stayed away from each other as much as possible; however, their paths kept crossing once the MC old ladies befriended her. Atlas took us through their interactions alongside an MC plot that was a continuation from previous books.I loved both Jigsaw and Izzy. They were broken souls but they fit together perfectly. I enjoyed their push and pull, bantering and the developments when layer upon layer were peeled back from both of them. They had tough exteriors but wonderful prizes buried deep within.All in all, it was action packed, sexy, somewhat suspenseful and a quick and entertaining read. Our favorite characters from past books were central to the storyline as well as a few new ones. Atlas also continued to build the anticipation for Copper and Shell’s story, which thankfully is up next in Copper and I can’t wait!

I started out reading Lilly Atlas books when she first published the No Prisoners series and now have added the Hell's Handlers series to my collection. To heck with reading them via Kindle Unlimited, I immediately purchase each and every time Ms. Atlas has a new book coming out on pre-order. Jigsaw is the latest in the Hell's Handlers series and is the story of Izzy, a tattoo artist and female MMA fighter, and Jigsaw the club treasurer who is a widower still struggling years after the murder of his family. The plot is riveting, the character development is phenomenal, and the author does a wonderful job with story continuity from one book to the next. This would be a five star read for me except for one minor ongoing irritant...the incorrect and repetitive usage of discrete vs. discreet. Please Ms. Atlas, have your beta readers or editor look up the definitions and correct these errors! You deserve five stars for your writing but I am finally deducting a star for editing as this has continued, without correction, throughout all your books.

How much do I love you let me count the way's. Lily Atlas is a one click buy for me, she does not dissapoint, this is the 3rd book in this series and I have loved them all so far and can't wait for the next. Jig, this character was awesome, so broken but strong, he is an Alpha protector to the 10th degree, he is also so lost that he almost did not give our girl a chance who has her own issues of trust, but boy, Izzy is one tough cookie, she is an MMA fighter, a tatoo artist and so not Jig's type, well thakfully there is hope and the build up was awesome, their interaction was stellar and their friendship i.e love (they did not know it) was off the charts. This book had just enough dark to make it a worthwhile MC read, enough Mc tention to make us grit our teeth and hope the bad guy's would not get one over the MC, let me tell you it was close very close. Over all this book was solid 4.5 stars for me and a re-read and let me tell you when I say re-read I mean it, it does not happen alot, but there you go. So of you are in the mood for hot broken Alpah and a heroine who is total bad.....s and a bit broken but not defeated, then you will love this book. Enjoy

Jigsaw wasn’t alway this moody biker guy he once was a nerd getting his PHD until someone broke into his house and killed his wife and daughter and almost killed him. But that all reshaped him into the man he is now. Izzy is the new tattoo artist at the only shop in town and she doesn’t trust people because they all leave and disappoint her. So they both have issues that drive them to want the fight and beat on people that’s where Jig see her in her first fight after coming to town. He knows he is attracted to her but he doesn’t want a relationship with any women. And Izzy doesn’t want one Esther but she sure would like to jump his bones. But of corse the MC is still having trouble with the Gray Dragons and they will cause more trouble for them. So enjoy the read and see if they get a HEA.

Took me awhile to relate to this book. Jig was so out of life and Izzy was too mad at the world. Their personalities clashed from day one. He was still upset about the death of his wife and child and Izzy was so used to just taking care of herself wanting no emotional ties. Loved this book but one major question...........what about LEFTY!!!!!!!

ToJigsaw's last is hearbreakingly sad but so is Izzy. Neither o e trusts or believes in forever after. Lilly writes characters that are wonderful to read and suck readers in. I loved Izzy. She was a strong woman who didn't need or want a man to tell her what to do. Enter Jigsaw, a strong alpha. These two were made for each other!

I wasn't sure if I would like this one. I'm really not into bad ass female heroins but I will say Lilly pulled this one out with flare. Both Izzy and Jig had rough past but both were perfect for ea other. I have loved all her mc books and looking forward to Copper and Shell's story. Hurry Lilly I don't know how long I can wait!! 👌

This is a beautifully written story, which is emotional, heartbreaking with redemption and healing. I was totally captivated throughout Izzy and Jigsaw's story, and cannot wait to read more in this amazing series.
